ABOUT USThe Montessori Children’s House of Wellesley (MCHW) serves children at the primary (preschool) level. All children learn in a mixed-age group, representing a 3-year age spread. We accept children as young as 2.9. A full kindergarten curriculum is available for any family wishing to use this option. All children attend 5 mornings a week. MCHW opened in 2007 in response to parents’ requests for a progressive Montessori preschool. We are a true “children’s house” in the tradition established over 100 years ago by Dr. Maria Montessori. Our classrooms comprise the first floor of a converted 1897 Queen Anne Victorian house in the heart of downtown Wellesley. The children have access to the complete array of Montessori materials within our sunny, warm, home-like environment. Our teachers are Montessori certified and are deeply committed to providing the model of education originally described by Dr. Montessori. What makes us progressive is our use of contemporary educational and developmental theories that complement Dr. Montessori’s original vision. We approach each child with compassionate appreciation for individual learning differences. For instance, our teachers are trained in sensory integration theory and understand that even minor sensory processing challenges can impact a child’s ability to joyfully participate. As a result, we use sensory tools in our classrooms that were not available 100 years ago. |
